Our Story:

Driven by a commitment to helping as many people as possible capture and preserve their stories for future generations, Rhondia Turano and her daughter, Lachelle, co-founded Memories In Writing LLC in 2012. They believe that everyone—whether famous, infamous, or somewhere in between—has a story to tell.

This commitment expanded with the launch of Memories In Writing Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing free memoir workbooks to individuals from all backgrounds, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to share and preserve their unique life stories for generations to come.

Memories In Writing LLC proudly supports the foundation’s mission by donating a portion of its proceeds to fund the printing and distribution of these workbooks. We also welcome contributions from individuals and businesses who share our belief in the power of preserving personal histories. Together, we’re working to help as many people as possible share their stories with future generations.

Lachelle’s Story
Lachelle’s fascination with personal stories began in childhood and has only deepened over the years. She recalls, “In my early years, I had the privilege of working at my mother’s publishing company, where we transformed handwritten, typed, or spoken stories into completed books. While we worked on a variety of projects, from cookbooks to fiction, I quickly discovered that my heart was drawn to memoirs.” This passion continued to grow as she pursued her master’s degree, volunteered in senior living facilities, and watched her grandmother’s memories fade due to dementia.

Inspired by these experiences, Lachelle modernized her family’s original "Do-It-Yourself Memoir Workbook," first published in 2002, to make it easier for individuals to preserve their stories. This workbook, alongside a memoir interview service, became the cornerstone offerings of Memories In Writing LLC, fulfilling a heartfelt mission to help people capture and preserve their memories for future generations.

Rhondia’s Story
Rhondia’s journey also became deeply personal. “What will future generations know about us—the lives we’ve lived, the lessons we’ve learned, and the traditions we hold dear? This question took on profound meaning for me over a decade ago when my mother, still in her 50s, was diagnosed with early-onset dementia. Watching her memories fade was a powerful wake-up call, revealing just how quickly our most treasured stories and traditions can slip away.”

Like many in the ‘sandwich generation,’ Rhondia found herself balancing her responsibilities in the business, advancing her career, raising her children, and supporting three aging parents—all grappling with their own stages of dementia. This experience only strengthened her commitment to helping others capture their legacies before these precious memories fade.
